Intimate Chicago Wedding // Crystal Gardens Navy Pier // Kinzie Street Bridge // Aimee & Matt

Wedding season 2013 is here! For my first wedding this year I had the honor of capturing Aimee and Matt’s intimate Chicago wedding. With about 80 guests, the size was just perfect for their Spring wedding celebration. The Crystal Gardens at Navy Pier hosted both the ceremony and reception, and was the perfect tropical respite for this years chilly Spring. Although we did get lucky and had some lovey blue skies for our outdoor pictures! Making all the magic come together was planning by Joan and her team at Five Grain Events! Fantastic!

Chicago, preceremony preparation, spring, veil, wedding, wedding dressI love, love that Aimee chose to wear a long veil for part of the day! It always makes for some great images–especially with a little wind.

The couple snuck out to see each other for the first time and for a few quiet moments together before heading out on the trolley for pictures. This was the cute little courtyard behind their home.

We were all so excited the the sun made an appearance (it had been snowing a tiny bit that morning!) I love incorporating a little bit a lens flare from the sun!

I love Navy Pier in the Spring! Not as many tourists visiting this great Chicago landmark at this time of year (although I did have a woman stop and ask if she could take a camera phone picture of the lovely couple!)

The above black and white picture was shot with my DSLR that I had converted to infrared. I loved infrared photography in college, and decided to convert a DSLR a few years back to incorporate a little of it into my wedding photography–also, they don’t really make infrared film anymore. No special effects or Photoshop for my infrared shots…I guess you can call me a purist!

The ceremony was short and sweet and just beautiful! The gorgeous natural light of the Crystal Gardens, and beautiful florals from Forget Me Knodt made for a lovely exchange of vows. I love all the color and texture that Aimee selected in her florals!

The linens from BBJ Chicago were just gorgeous…so luxurious, and such a pretty color of pale green!

The bride and groom’s first dance is one of my favorite moments of the reception.

After dinner, the dance floor was open! Thanks to Just Press Play, a close friend of the bride was able to DJ! Let the party begin!

Chicago Wedding // Arrowhead Golf // Intimate, Vintage & Romantic // Darcy & JD

Marcy & JD were a sweet couple, who had a lovely spring wedding outdoors at the Arrowhead Golf Club last year. The bride and her family did a lot of DIY on the decor for the wedding and reception. Darcy’s attention to detail blew me away, and she achieved a gorgeous romantic vintage look, with a little sparkle as well. The couple opted to see each other before the ceremony, which made for great pictures around the golf course with them and their small wedding party (and they could enjoy their cocktail hour!) The ceremony was officiated by Reverend Jim Rehnberg (“Rent a Rev”) whom I’ve worked with before on several occasions. He never ceases to amaze me…he always performs a warm, heartfelt service, and includes many personal details about the couple–so you know he takes the time to get to know their story! Everyone had a great time at the reception, and the food was amazing as usual. The bride was on the dance floor most of the night and she really enjoyed kicking up her heels! I love going to Wheaton, and sometimes miss it…I used to live there for about three years, and about five minutes from Arrowhead.

Chicago Wedding // Holiday Inn Mart Plaza // Merchandise Mart // Franklin Street Bridge

Melissa and Scott were one of my favorite wedding couples in 2011! Their love had such a great energy, and their wedding had fun and laid back vibe.  They had their ceremony and reception at the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza, Chicago. What a great place for a city wedding with an urban flair, not to mention an awesome view! I love incorporating Chicago’s architecture and bridges into my sessions when I have couples getting married in the city. Scott is a huge Chicago White Sox fan (even though they lived on the Northside…I forgave him! *wink*) Scott’s parents arranged for a special surprise for him at the reception–a visit from none-other than the White Sox mascot Southpaw! Scott was very surprised, and everyone had a great time taking some pictures and dancing with Southpaw. And…he was there for just enough time as to not distract from the bride :) I was so honored to have captured their special day! You can find a personal recommendation from Melissa on my Facebook business page.

Chicago Wedding // Adler Planetarium // Northerly Island // Wilder Park // Empress Banquets

I had the honor of photographing Julie & Dominik’s wedding last October. (Looking at the photographs, you would swear it was still the middle of Summer, what a gorgeous day!) We started the day very early at Holy Trinity Church for their traditional Polish ceremony at 10 AM, which gave us tons of time for pictures around Chicago! We first headed to Adler Planetarium for classic Chicago skyline shots. I like to mix it up a bit and get photographs from a location that the bride and groom may not have thought of. So, we took a short walk on Northerly Island to get some great alternative skyline and Lake Michigan pictures. Before heading to the reception–for a romantic garden feel–we also stopped at Wilder Park in Elmhurst. We then headed to the Empress Banquets in Addison for an awesome reception, which included a sultry, tango inspired (and fully choreographed!) first dance by the bride and groom. They burned up the dance floor!Julie and Dominik's wedding in ChicagoJulie & Dominik's wedding in ChicagoIf you liked this post please share it…thanks! ~Melissa
